Welcome!
My passion for the practice of medicine comes from my enjoyment of helping people, of listening to their concerns, and doing my best to meet not only their medical needs, but also their psychological and emotional needs. For me, medicine is more than a science; it is an art form that requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to make people feel comfortable with you so they can discuss all the dimensions of their lives that impact their medical conditions. I enjoy the challenge of supporting patients from different cultural backgrounds, and educating my patients on how they can optimize their healing through healthy alternatives such as exercise, good nutrition, and avoiding substance abuse.
My practice philosophy is to do my best to individualize my patients' care so I can hone in on and identify as quickly as possible what their medical issues are, and prepare them to function as optimally as they can when they are discharged from the hospital.
I chose internal medicine as my specialty because it allows me to conceptualize my patients' cases in a holistic way, and to meet their needs in this way.
I enjoy working at Kaiser Permanente because I am able to be part of a multidisciplinary team, and as such, can consult with other team members on my patients medical issues and needs. Kaiser Permanente also offers my patients many educational resources that can help them to build on the medical care they receive, and live healthier lives.
I am a member of the National Diabetes Association, and through this association, I have received numerous trainings on acute and chronic care of diabetes. Continuing to build on my medical skills in this way is connected to my philosophy of providing the best possible care to my patients who suffer from the devasting effects of this disease, which in turn, empowers! them to take better care of themselves and manage this disease more effectively.
I have been practicing karate-do since 1991, a practice which has taught how to center myself and live a healthy lifestyle. I love the outdoors, going for hikes or fast walking with my family, and playing soccer. I am a firm believer that I have to practice the healthy lifestyle that I am trying to instill in my patients so they can see me as a healthy role model in changing their lives.
I am multilingual. I speack Spanish, and English, and I am currently learning French.
