Welcome to My Internet Home Page

I am proud to be a member of the Anesthesiology Department and the medical group at Kaiser Permanente Central Valley.

About Me

I was born and raised in Montevideo, Uruguay. I obtained my medical doctor degree at Universidad de la República, Facultad de Medicina, Montevideo, Uruguay. I continued my postgraduate studies in the United States, completing my transitional internship at John Peter Smith Hospital, Fort Worth, TX and my anesthesiology residency at State University of New York School of Medicine, Buffalo, NY. My residency formation included special training in cardiothoracic and obstetric anesthesia.

Anesthesiology is the practice of medicine dedicated to the relief of pain and total care of the surgical patient before, during and after surgery. The medical expertise of the anesthesiologist has caused a dramatic expansion of the role of this specialist in health care delivery. Although historically anesthesiologists have been known primarily as physicians who administer anesthesia to alleviate pain and suppress consciousness of the patient undergoing surgery, they also provide medical care and consultations in many other settings and situations outside of the operating room.

I joined The Permanente Medical Group because the organization provides enormous amount of resources to ensure quality in practicing evidence-based medicine. Kaiser Permanente provides a stable environment, allowing doctors to make our own decisions in order to provide the best possible care to our patients.

I chose to stay in the Central Valley because it is a family friendly place, and is close to many recreational activities. In addition, the Central Valley, which has experienced an explosive growth in recent years, has become a very diverse and multicultural region. I am thankful to this region which has allowed me to develop as a health professional, and enjoy life with my wife and three children who have grown and studied in the area.

My Philosophy of Care

Most people believe that anesthesiologists are the doctors who administer medications which keep them from feeling pain and sensations. However, few people realize that beyond ensuring patient's comfort, our primary role in the operating room is to make informed medical judgments to protect and regulate the patient's critical life functions. Also, anesthesiologists are the doctors who will immediately diagnose and treat any medical problems that might arise during surgery or the recovery period. As a member of the anesthesiology community, I am here to ensure a safe environment, a comfortable surgical experience, and to provide operating conditions that will allow the best patient care.

Our entire Anesthesiology Department and I want to be certain that all of your concerns are addressed. If you forget to ask a question during your pre-operative office visit, please call (209) 476-3633.

Thank you again for viewing my home page!
