Many people have Laser Vision Correction done so that they are no longer dependent on glasses or contact lenses for distance vision. Individuals over 40 will still need glasses for reading after Laser Vision Correction to correct both eyes for distance.

If you obtain contact lenses through Kaiser Permanente Optical Services, and your prescription is current, you can now order replacement lenses via the Internet, using the following link: Order now

How to Use My Home Page...

My Biography

I had my first inclination toward a career as an optometrist at age 16, and haven't come to an insurmountable obstacle yet. After graduation from The New England College of Optometry in 1981, I moved to the west coast and away from winter and snow. I worked in a number of private practices to gain experience, and began working at Kaiser Permanente in 1985.

During my time at Kaiser Permanente, I have been fortunate enough to develop a practice in specialty contact lens fitting. This has me working with patients with irregular corneas, occurring as a result of disease or trauma. I have also worked with patients who need additional contact lens treatment after some surgical or laser treatements. In spite of the challenges, I find this work to be particularly rewarding, as it allows persons to live life with nearly normal visual function, rather than being visually compromised. As a fortunate coincidence, I also enjoy this work.

In addition to my clinical function, I have also enjoyed my work in helping to develop the Labor-Management Partnership at Kaiser Permanente. This multi-faceted role might have me working on the Workplace Safety Initiative one day, Kaiser Permanente HealthConnect another day, and any of a number of other activities at other times.

When I am not in the medical center, I pursue any of a number of interests. My major passions in life are for bicycling and jazz (listening). I have participated in a number of multi-day fundraising rides for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Lung Association, the Greenbelt Alliance, several AIDS service organizations and vaccine research. I have also done cycle touring in Italy, New Zealand, Montana, Vermont, and Hawaii, as well as self-contained touring in California. Off the bike and out of jazz clubs, I enjoy photography, backpacking in the Sierra, and playing with my cats.
