Welcome to my home page. Here you will find some information about me, as well as some useful links to mental health information on the left side of this page.

Originally from New England, I received my BA in Psychology from Boston University, and then my Masters and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. A variety of life experiences convinced me that psychology would be a profession in which I could make a difference, while helping myself stay clear about what is important in my own life.

My internship brought me to California, specifically to the V.A. Medical Center in Palo Alto and the Behavior Therapy Clinic at the Stanford University Medical Center. My postdoctoral hours were spent working for the U.S. Navy at the former Moffett Field Naval Air Station, where I was the program director at the newly-formed Family Service Center.

Since arriving at Kaiser Permanente, Redwood City in 1985, I have specialized in evidence-based group treatments for anxiety disorders. Kaiser Permanente’s emphasis on evidence-based medicine is one of the things that appeals to me about working here.

Currently, I manage Adult Services in our Psychiatry Department, and work on regional efforts to measure clinical outcomes. My clinical work focuses on group therapy for anxiety disorders. I continue to be involved with writing Clinical Practice Guidelines for treating anxiety and depression in Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California region.

In addition to the pleasures of working with and learning from my patients, I enjoy my colleagues very much; they add a lot to the quality of my work life. I appreciate the team approach we take when trying to help people, and I appreciate the good-heartedness and sense of humor our staff bring to work. Outside of work, I enjoy time with my family, reading, music, travel, and trying to remember what’s important in life.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
