My Education

BA, University of Chicago, 1967; Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley, 1976. Psychologist License PSY 5037.

My Qualifications

I have been a Psychologist at the Psychiatry Clinic at Kaiser Permanente Vallejo since 1977, working with children, adults and families. I started the first relaxation and stress reduction classes at the facility in 1980 through the Health Education Department. Since 2000 I have also taught a traditional Chinese exercise and health form, Qi Gong.

My Philosophy on Healing

I believe children and their families come to our clinic being stuck and unhappy in ways of feeling, thinking, and acting. Talking about feelings in a safe environment is usually the first step to change. We all need to be heard and understood in safety. Additionally, we may need to act differently in order to continue to feel better. Being open to new or different ways of behaving makes it more likely that therapy will help.

My Professional Associations

  • American Psychological Association
  • Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
