About Me
I am originally from West Virginia where I grew up in a small, rural, coal mining town. Becoming a doctor was a goal from an early age. I planned to become a Pediatrician and specialize in Neonatology. However, during my Pediatric residency, I became interested in Medical Genetics because it had the potential to revolutionize the practice of medicine. In my practice, I especially enjoy taking care of patients with metabolic disorders such as PKU and maple syrup urine disease.
I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1993 and have found it to be a great health care organization to work for. I have outstanding colleagues and support staff in the Genetics Department. Prior to joining KP, I believed that academic medical centers provided the best possible care. To my surprise, I have found that the care at KP is actually superior in many cases!
I would describe my practice style as honest, direct, and scientific evidence based. I believe that compassion is the core of a good practice and that every patient should receive the care I would want for myself or my family. I strive to see that patients (and/or parents) know everything about their genetic condition.
I am married to a wonderful wife of 25 years. We have 3 living children and one is deceased. My son is currently in the Marines, my oldest daughter is an honor student at San Diego State, and my youngest daughter is a senior in high school. I have a cute granddaughter who is 6 years old. Our church is East Bay Fellowship in Danville.
My personal interests include water activities in the summer (boating, skiing, and jet skis). I enjoy working around the house on various gardening and home improvement projects on the weekends. I love classic cars and hope to completely rebuild a classic car some day.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
