I enjoy being a psychologist (License No. PSY13403) because people allow me to help them find solutions that work for them, often by more clearly recognizing their own skills, talents, and resources. Sometimes I can suggest a new way of looking at issues or some additional ways of considering thoughts and feelings. I am delighted when people report their accomplishments.

Since 2001 I have been working as a Behavioral Medicine Specialist at Kaiser Permanente, Redwood City. This means that from my office in an internal medicine clinic, I work with Kaiser Permanente members and their health care providers. We collaborate to improve health. People come with issues related to stress, worry, anxiety, panic, depression, sleep, illness, etc. Together we try to understand what is happening and identify what the person may want to do about it. Sometimes I am able to suggest good resources the person can use. Sometimes people come with questions about memory. I work to help them understand whether such problems reflect the usual processes of concentrating, remembering, forgetting, and aging—or whether their concerns require more attention.

I try to learn from and support others in my profession, as a member of American Psychological Association, California Psychological Association, National Academy of Neuropsychology, Northern California Neuropsychology Forum, and National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. My original research was on the assessment of the consequences of brain injury, and I retain a strong interest in brain injury, function, and rehabilitation.

In my office you will see pictures and posters of Yosemite and other wonderful, refreshing places that are good for hiking, photographing, and just plain enjoying. I hope you will find a visit to my office to be good and helpful.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
