When I was in 3rd grade, I had a friend who was labeled as being unable to learn. He was held back a year because of this. It took an interested teacher to recognize that he might be having vision problems. When he finally got his eyes examined and was given glasses, his grades and his attitude toward school improved. This made an impression me, and made me want to help people see.

I was born in Los Angeles and my family moved to La Puente, CA when I was 2 years old. I graduated from Bassett High School and went on to complete a bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of California at Irvine.

I earned my doctorate from the Southern California College of Optometry. I worked in private practice and as an optometric instructor before joining the U.S. Air Force. I was the sole eye care provider at Reese AFB in Lubbock, Texas. I transferred to Wilford Hall Medical Center and performed my Hospital Based Optometry Residency at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico and Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia to study. I transferred to Travis Air Force Base, California and served as the chief of the department. Travis AFB serves as a training center for Optometric externs from U.C. Berkeley, Southern California College of Optometry, Pacific University (Oregon) and the State University of New York, and I enjoyed participating in the externs' education. I had the pleasure of serving on humanitarian missions in Honduras, Central America and the Grenadines of the Lesser Antilles. I left the Active Duty Air Force in 1999 and moved to Elk Grove. I joined the Air Force Reserve and Kaiser Permanente in the fall of 1999. In February 2005 I transferred to South Sacramento Kaiser Permanente bringing with me my expertise on Low Vision Services, which I had performed at the Stockton Kaiser Permanente. I am currently a Major in the Air Force Reserves. I am proud to be working with the dedicated men and women in the Air Force Reserves, and also with the fine staff that we have here in South Sacramento. I hope you’ll be “seeing” me soon!

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
