I am a rarity- a native Californian, born and raised in Northern California. I attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, receiving my degree in sociology. Following a brief time spent working in the banking industry, I decided to return to school to finish pre-med studies. I was then accepted to medical school at Saint Louis University in Missouri, from which I graduated in 1984. I then returned to the Bay Area to pursue training in pathology at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco. I completed my residency in 1988 and immediately joined Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara, the first female in a department of all males.

Over the years I have had a number of different roles here in Santa Clara. For over 10 years I was Director of the Transfusion Service. For several years I was Chief of Pathology and Director of the Clinical Laboratory. I have chaired the Transfusion Committee and served on the Infection Control Committee and Tumor Board of our medical center. Currently, I am the director of our laboratories at Milpitas, Mountain View and Campbell.

Contrary to popular opinion, not all pathologists work in the area of forensics, like "Quincy, M.E." or only in the laboratory. My special areas of interest include tumor pathology, infectious disease pathology and fine needle aspiration biopsy. I consider myself lucky, in that I am one of few pathologists in the region to be able to see patients in the fine needle aspiration (FNA) clinic.

I love working at Kaiser because I have access to immediate consultation with specialists and am given latitude to practice pathology based on sound medical evidence. I count myself fortunate to have received excellent medical care from a number of my colleagues at this medical center and know first-hand what a committed and qualified group of physicians works here.

When I am not at the hospital I love to spend time with my husband, daughters and friends (as well as two dogs, two guinea pigs, a hamster and a rabbit). I enjoy hiking and volleyball as well as cooking, sewing, reading and sleeping. My mother was French and I speak French, although I seldom get to practice anymore.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
