About Me

My undergraduate degree is from the University of California at Los Angeles, with a Major in Psychology. I received my Masters and Doctoral degrees in Psychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. I attended Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island where I completed the Clinical Psychology Internship Program and the Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program. While there, I also served as Treatment Coordinator and then Grant Coordinator for research on treatment and psychological factors in the addictions. In 1986 I returned to California and joined the Permanente Medical Group, where I worked at Kaiser Hayward/Union City in the Department of Psychiatry's Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program. In 1996, I transferred to Kaiser Permanente, Oakland, to the newly opened Chemical Dependency Recovery Program (CDRP). The CDRP provides multifaceted and intensive services to individuals recovering from both addictive and dual diagnosis disorders.

My training and work in chemical dependency began with an interest in the process of change, and the interplay between biological, pschological, and social factors. It has continued to provide the opportunity to collaborate with many wonderful clients and colleagues who are also interested in the possibilities for positive change.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
