My Biography

I am Chief of the Department of Genetics at Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in San Jose. Although born in New York, I am drawn to the California sunshine and have practiced as a medical geneticist and pediatrician with Kaiser Permanente since 1993. I am also a member of the voluntary clinical faculty at Stanford University School of Medicine.

Attending medical school at Yeshiva University Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York, I received my MD in 1987. In 1990, I completed my residency in pediatrics at the Yeshiva University Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York. My fellowships include: Fellowship in Human Genetics from Children's Hospital, Philadelphia (1990-3) and post-doctoral fellowship as Dana Fellow in Neuroscience from the Institute of Neurological Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania (1991-3).

I am specialty certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics in clinical genetics, in addition to being certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. I am a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Medical Genetics and I am a member of the American Society of Human Genetics.

One of my areas of interest is hereditary cancer. I am the chairperson of the Regional Genetics Hereditary Cancer Group. I was one of the participants in the creation of the first interregional clinical practice guideline within Kaiser Permanente, entitled "Referral for Genetic Counseling for Inherited Susceptibility for Breast and Ovarian Cancer."

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
