My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a licensed clinical health psychologist in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department. I am a member of the Chronic Pain Program team that through classes and individual appointments teaches each patient how to best manage their chronic pain condition.

My Practice Philosophy

Chronic illness affects every aspect of life including how we view ourselves physically, our mental functioning, thoughts and memory, sleep, relationships with other people, and emotions. Our best health is attained by working to change unhealthy habits to healthy ones. My role in the Chronic Pain Program is to help you understand yourself better in order to make changes that will maximize your functioning, health, and quality of life.

My Qualifications

I received my master's and doctoral degrees from California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego. I worked for a chronic pain program in San Diego, specializing in Biofeedback. I have also run clinical studies for heart disease and hypertension, fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome at the University of Miami. Over the years, I have helped patients manage a variety of medical conditions including anxiety and depression, digestive problems, insomnia, cancer, diabetes, and obesity.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I joined Kaiser Permanente, Northern California, in 2005. I worked for Adult Medicine as a Behavioral Medicine Consultant for 4 years and moved to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department in 2009.

I choose to work at Kaiser Permanente because it offers the latest evidence-based treatment for chronic pain and uses a team approach. Our team of health psychologists, physical medicine physicians, nurse care managers, physical therapists, and acupuncturists attempt to care for people with pain from a mind-body and holistic approach. Our program is designed to maximize non-invasive and non-pharmacology coping techniques for pain.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
