Welcome to My Internet Home Page

As a kidney Specialist, I evaluate and treat patients with acute kidney failure, chronic kidney disease, severe hypertension, chronic kidney failure requiring kidney replacement therapy (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplantation), recurrent kidney stones, inherited kidney disorders, cystic kidney disorders, and electrolyte disorders.

About Me

I was born in an accomplished doctors’ family and grew up in China. Even though in the teenage years I tried to break away from the “family trade”, becoming a doctor eventually seemed to be a natural choice. Later on in my life, through experience in the medical field, first as a medical technologist, then as a doctor, I became certain that I made the right career choice as I continue to discover intellectual challenges and find the opportunities to help others. For that, I am grateful.

I came to the United States in my college years and decided to finish medical training because of the resources available here. I received my medical education at Eastern Virginia School of Medicine in Norfolk, VA. I then completed my internal medicine residency at Virginia Commonwealth University-Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA. Thereafter, I came to California to finish the training in the specialty of kidney diseases at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). My research in UCSF was focused on kidney transplantation. I also studied in depth in the area of acute kidney injury during my fellowship.

I like Kaiser Permanente as it allows me to treat my patients as I see best for them rather than worrying about the cost. Central Valley offers affordable living, and reasonable access to different attractions and recreations. I used to be a sprinter in college. Nowadays, I like to read particularly in history and religion. I also like to spend time with my little daughter. Besides English, I speak fluent Mandarin, Chinese.

My Philosophy of Care

The single most important factor in patient care is communication. Willing to invest extra time in the beginning to help patient understand his/her disease and medications goes a long way in slowing disease progression, decreasing patient’s cost and increasing patient’s preparedness in dealing with acute issues.

Thank you for visiting my home page. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome and I look forward to seeing you.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
