Welcome to my home page, a website that my colleagues and I have developed to make it easier for you to interact with me and for me to take care of many of your healthcare needs. I'm eager to work with you to make your experience at Kaiser Permanente a positive one.

My Background

I attended New York University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Neural Science and was on the dean's list. I obtained my medical degree from The George Washington School of Medicine in Washington DC in 1999. During medical school, I was awarded The William Beaumont Research Society award for an abstract and poster on a spinal cord injury research project.

My interest and passion for skull base neurosurgery, which developed during medical school, led me to a residency in otolaryngology initially and then into a neurological surgery residency. My internship in general surgery was earned from The New-York Presbyterian Hospital Weill College of Medicine at Cornell and Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City. I went on from there to The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NYC where I trained as a resident in otolaryngology. During this time, I earned first place at The New York Academy of Medicine Otolaryngology Meeting for a tracheal transplantation project.

My interest in tumors and vascular problems that affect the central nervous system led me to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA where I completed my residency in neurological surgery in 2008. My passion for complex intracranial pathology, skull base neurosurgery and cerebrovascular surgery led me to The University Of Washington-Harborview Medical Center where I expanded on my neurosurgical training. There I functioned as fellow and clinical faculty. This allowed me to further specialize in open and endoscopic skull base surgery, cerebrovascular and intracranial bypass surgery, endoscopic intracranial and intraventricular approaches, minimal access neurosurgical approaches and trauma neurosurgery.

My training in general surgery, otolaryngology, neurological surgery, and specializing in open and endoscopic skull base neurosurgery, cerebrovascular and intracranial bypass surgery, endoscopic intracranial and intraventricular approaches and minimal access neurosurgical approaches affords me the opportunity to offer patients a multi-disciplinary perspective on treatment options that may not otherwise be offered.

I enjoy working with my colleagues in treating neurosurgical patients and offering a multi-modality treatment option for patients’ complex problems. Our goal is to treat the "whole patient" and educate and support the patient, their family members and loved ones.

Roles & Responsibilities

I give lectures at neurosurgical national meetings and function as clinical faculty at UC Davis teaching neurosurgical residents. I am also a presenter and faculty at national courses in endoscopic skull base and intracranial/intraventricular neurosurgical techniques.

My Staff & Colleagues

My staff and I are here to support patients, their families and loved ones. My colleagues are very well trained neurosurgeons. We work in a supportive environment where the main focus is patient care. Our group offers patients the benefit of neurosurgeons who have trained all over the country with both extensive general neurosurgical experience and advanced specialty expertise.

This allows our group and Kaiser Permanente the opportunity to offer patients multi-modality treatment options. For example, a patient with a brain tumor may have the options of an open cranial vs. a minimal access neurosurgical procedure vs. a radiosurgical treatment option. Likewise, a patient with a cerebral aneurysm whether it is ruptured or unruptured would obtain both a consultation with our open vascular neurosurgeons and our neuro-interventional radiologists who access the aneurysm through a catheter placed in the groin thereby avoiding a craniotomy.

We are also one of the unique neurological centers in the United States to have on staff three neurologists who are specialty trained in neuro-critical care and stroke. Our patients also benefit from 24/7 hospital based medical physicians who care for our patients and their medical problems. We function as a team.

On a Personal Note

I am married and have a wonderful family. I enjoy playing and watching sports. My other interests include art and travel

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
