About Me

My professional career began as a registered nurse at Boston University Medical Center and, after I moved to California, I continued working as a nurse at Langley Porter Institute in San Francisco.

Realizing that I was particularly drawn to helping clients with emotional and psychological issues, I returned to school and received my Bachelor’s degree in psychology from UC Berkeley. A short while later, I received my Master’s and Ph.D. from the California School of Professional Psychology in Berkeley.

While in graduate school, I worked as an RN at Alta Bates Hospital’s inpatient chemical dependency unit. My doctoral training included internships at Kaiser Permanente Vallejo and the Tenderloin Clinic in San Francisco. My post-doctoral internship was at Children’s Hospital in San Francisco.

In 1984 I began my career at Kaiser Permanente, Oakland. I was part of the team of people that developed what was known as ‘ADAP’ – the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Program. In 1995 ADAP became the current Chemical Dependency Recovery Program.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
