Welcome to my home page! I hope you will find this helpful during your hospital experience.
I was born and raised in California. I attended San Jose schools and graduated from San Jose State University with honors in 1995. I worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for two years and adult intensive care for one year before entering a Master's degree program in Nurse Anesthesia at Samuel Merritt College in Oakland. I was drawn to anesthesia for its technical aspects and to help people through the stress of surgery. I've been working for Kaiser Permanente San Jose as a CRNA since 2002.
My Interests
My interest in healthcare began the summer after high school on a family vacation to England and Wales. I learned there that the majority of my distant relatives were either nurses or teachers, and I realized that I had genuine interest in those careers too. When I returned home I began the college prerequisite classes for nursing. I never second guessed my major or decision to work in healthcare. After 3 years of working in Intensive care, I was drawn to anesthesia for its technical aspects and to help people through the stress of surgery.
Although I enjoy giving anesthesia to all age groups, my special interests in anesthesia include obstetrics and pediatrics. One of my most satisfying jobs in anesthesia is administering epidurals for labor pain. It's great to see the smile when the pain is gone and to be a part of welcoming a new life in the world.
Away from work my interest lies with my family. We have many family gatherings. I'm married with a baby daughter who takes most of my time. I like to read, crochet, cook, and garden.
My Philosophy of Care
I believe in trying to prevent disease as much as one can by living a healthy lifestyle which includes eating right and exercise. I believe in the power of laughter and in getting a good night's sleep. I believe life is short and that one should always try to see the good in a challenging situation. Each person is unique in their specific needs and anesthesia should be tailored to suit each one. I believe patients should be treated the way I would want to be treated- with kindness and vigilance in the operating room. I think patients should be treated like a member of one's own family.
