Why I Became a Physician

I became a doctor because I love the variety of people and challenges that I meet each and every day. When I come to work, I am excited by the opportunity to get to know my patients and cherish the privilege of helping to diagnose and treat their medical conditions.

My Philosophy on Healing

I try to be as honest and open as possible with my patients, and want them to be equally comfortable in sharing their concerns and wishes with me. I believe that good communication is vital to a rewarding physician-patient relationship.

Why I Chose My Specialty

I enjoy practicing gastroenterology because it is an incredibly diverse field. I take care of adult patients of all ages, and from all walks of life. Frequently, I participate in the intellectual challenge of diagnosis. For some patients, I only intervene on acute medical problems, whereas for other patients, I will have a long-lasting relationship with them for years.

What I Like about Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

To me, the most important factors in choosing my work environment were the people I work with and the patients I care for. At Kaiser Permanente Vallejo, my fellow physicians, nurses, and staff are talented, thoughtful, and fun to work with. Here, we enjoy taking care of our patients, who are motivated to get well and stay well.

Personal Interests

Outside medicine, I love to spend time with family, especially my beautiful wife, son, and two pugs. I enjoy traveling, taking photographs, eating good food, and drinking good wine.

My Credentials

Medical school Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO
Residency UC San Diego Medical Center, San Diego, CA
Fellowship University of North Carolina At Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine
Board certification Gastroenterology, American Board of Internal Medicine

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
