About Me
While I was born in Chicago, I grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia and lived there until I was 20 years old. In 1986, I joined the Army was stationed in California, and have never left. After my discharge, I attended the University of California, Irvine, and then attended medical school in Davis. I stayed in the Sacramento area completing both my internal medicine residency and my nephrology fellowship at UC Davis Medical Center. I was privileged to start my practice at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento in 2004.
Aside from medicine, I love travel, the history channel, running, and aikido.
My specialty is nephrology, which is the study of kidney disease. I have always had an interest in chemisty which is in large part what the kidneys do. Kidneys perform crucial chemical functions, and maintain proper electrolytes and acid levels in the body, as well as getting rid of your body's waste products (that all your cells produce day to day).

My Healthcare Practice
One of my main goals as a physician is to educate patients. Many diseaes that lead to advanced kidney failure can be slowed down, if patients are educated and adhere to medical therapy.
I am a member of the American College of Physicians, the National Kidney Foundation and American Society of Nephrology.
Professionally, I have interests in hypertension, dialysis and electrolyte disorders.
Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente
In addition to working as a hospitalist prior to my fellowship, I also rotated through two Kaiser Permanente hospitals as a resident, and rejoined the group after finishing my training as a nephrologist.
Kaiser Permanente is the model of integration. Patients medications, x-rays, hospital notes are frequently as close as the nearest computer. This fusion of information technology with physicians is very powerful and allows us to provide better care for our patients. Moreover, Kaiser Permanente is non-profit. I like its ethics and commitment to patient care.
