About Me

There are many reasons why I became a physician and continue to enjoy this wonderful profession. Most important is the ability to bring good health to those I have the opportunity to care for. I come from a family of physicians, who had great influence on my decision to become a doctor, but the challenges of medicine and interactions with patients and colleagues are so fulfilling.

My specialty of infectious diseases is especially exciting, as it puts me in the position of medical detective. Hunting an infectious disease requires a broad knowledge of medicine while at the same time being mindful of the details of a person's daily life and experiences that may contribute to illness as well as to good health.

At Kaiser Permanente, the opportunity to interact and consult easily and effectively with physicians of all specialties helps me provide the best possible care. Kaiser Permanente’s dedication to disease prevention, and to education of physicians and patients, makes this a unique and exciting place to practice. This dedication ties into my philosophy of healing, which is reflected in the oath taken upon becoming a physician: that I should care for others as I would have them care for me.

My interests, though, do reach beyond medicine. I enjoy spending time with my wife and our two sons, especially looking for historic train rides around our area. I am also a big sports fan, both participating and cheering, most ardently in basketball and tennis.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
