My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am an optometrist. This means that I perform primary care eye examinations. I decided to become an optometrist because I wanted to help people to see more clearly. I have worn glasses since I was 4 years old and realized from an early age how important the gift of sight is.

Education and Training: OD Degree, UC Berkeley School of Optometry
Joined Kaiser Permanente:2001

My Practice Philosophy

I value the opportunity to help people to improve their lives. I feel that I work best on an individual level, allowing me to communicate optimally with others. I consider the eyeglass prescription check to be a collaborative effort, where my patients and I work together as a team to achieve the best prescription possible for their eyes.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I've been with Kaiser Permanente since 2001. During that time, I have had the opportunity to help hundreds of people in an environment where I feel I can make a difference. It has been wonderful to get to know my patients and to provide eye care in this healthcare setting.

I chose to work for Kaiser Permanente because it allows me to concentrate on providing the best healthcare possible to my patients. I feel that our integrated healthcare model and commitment to quality make Kaiser Permanente the best place to work and receive medical care.

On a Personal Note

I was born and raised in Hawaii and moved to California to go to college at UC Irvine. After the completion of my undergraduate studies, I enrolled at UC Berkeley for optometry school. Upon the completion of my graduate studies, I was commissioned as an active duty Naval Officer, stationed in San Diego for three years, and then I moved to Sacramento to get married. My wife and I have one daughter.

In my spare time, I enjoy running and cycling which help me to achieve a good work-life balance.
