Pathologists interpret gross and microscopic anatomy of blood, body fluids, tissue biopsies, and surgical specimens. Additional training in clinical chemistry, hematology, and microbiology provide a clinical context for interpreting patient samples. The best clinical correlation comes from my direct interactions with your primary physician or surgeon.

I was born in Saigon and have lived in several parts of California (Stockton, Sunnyvale, Berkeley, and Pasadena). I graduated from Homestead High School right down the road from the new Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara medical center. At the University of California, Berkeley I double majored in History and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. I received my medical education from the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles in 2003. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2008 and am board certified by the American Board of Pathology. My anatomic and clinical pathology training came from Stanford University where I also completed a fellowship in general surgical pathology.

My professional interests include hematology, transfusion medicine, and neuropathology. But I also enjoy the variety of surgical pathology cases that come from a busy general practice. Patients may see me for a fine needle aspiration at the Pathology department's FNA clinic.

On a personal note, I enjoy photography, Tae Kwon Do, cycling and keeping an aquarium. I speak conversational Cantonese, Mandarin, and Spanish.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
