About Me
I remember listening to a woman explain the field of physical therapy to a friend. She said physical therapists work closely with their patients that are recovering from an injury or accident. After that I volunteered in an outpatient sports medicine clinic. The therapist in charge was energetic and motivating. He had the time to work one on one with his patients. I thought it was a good career choice for me since it combines science with helping people.
I enjoy my work and being at the Martinez site. Physical therapists are a great group of individuals. I like having them as my co-workers. The facility is small enough to get to know staff from different departments. The patients and staff are friendly and down to earth. I like working closely with my patients to help them improve their functional mobility and well being. I enjoy educating patients on how specific tasks and exercises will improve their overall function. My clinical interests include working with elderly patients, patients with neurological involvement, and patients with orthopedic problems. Falls prevention is also important to me as I am interested in helping patients that are having balance problems.
I am a member of the Neurological Section of APTA, the American Physical Therapy Association.
During an Evaluation
During an evaluation I try to listen closely to you to find out your specific needs and goals. I like to educate you about your problem and what treatment options you can choose from. During the treatment sessions I like to get you and your family involved in problem solving and decision making.
Expect that I will have you practice functional movements and exercises as many times as is necessary so that you will remember it later. I may give you home exercise programs that you can work on when you’re not in the clinic.
Personal Interests
I love hanging out with my husband, family, friends, and playing with my kitties. I delight in the outdoors. I enjoy hiking, biking, camping, and backpacking. I love to travel and see new places and experience different cultures. I also enjoy crafts. I have made curtains for my home and have made a quilt. Recently, I have been making beaded bracelets and learning how to knit.
