Welcome to My Home Page

As your doctor, I understand how valuable your time is. I want to let you know how much I appreciate the time you take to be as healthy as you can be. To thank you for all your hard work, my colleagues and I have developed home pages to make it easier for you and your family to get answers to your questions and take care of many of your health care needs.

My Background

I am a California native, born, raised and educated in this state. After earning a degree in Bio Chemistry at California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, I attended Loma Linda University for my medical degree. I went on to specialize in emergency medicine at King/Harbor Medical Center in Compton California where I completed my training in 2001. I went on to work at Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, California where I served as the Emergency Department Ultrasound Director until transferring to Kaiser Permanente in 2005.

I chose emergency medicine as a specialty for many reasons including the huge variety of diseases, circumstances and people that I encounter. It is also a skill that is transportable outside the Emergency Department, making it very practical. Whether involved in educating patients and family, relieving discomfort, or saving a life, it is always rewarding to help people who come to the ER seeking help.

One of the best decisions I've made was to join the staff at Kaiser Permanente. The team of health professionals here are truly outstanding. The medical technology envelope is constantly being pushed. The data shows that outcomes for Kaiser patients are superior to our competitors and I see reasons for this every day. I am pleased to be able to provide this level of quality care to my family, friends and community.

Roles & Responsibilities

In addition to serving as an emergency department physician, I also have several administrative roles and projects:

  1. I led the effort to take our innovative outpatient approach to Deep Venous Thrombosis and developed it into a web based protocol. It is now used by hundreds of North Valley Physicians to safely evaluate and treat this dangerous disease as an outpatient.
  2. I am one of our department ultrasound credentialers and trainers.
  3. I am the ED Liaison and work with our Radiology colleagues to coordinate care and best practices.
  4. I work as an attending physician training U.C. Davis Emergency Physician Residents.

On a Personal Note

I have been married since 1996 and have two boys under 10. My wife attended law school at McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento before we met and loved her time here. After my training, she strongly suggested we move to this area. She currently serves as a Rescue School District Board Member. The whole family loves the lakes, trees, rivers, nearby mountains and the community. We wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

I enjoy all manner of outdoor activities including mountain biking, snow skiing, hiking, playing golf, traveling, reading and spending time with my family.

It is a privilege to serve the people of this community and I look forward to providing care to you and your loved ones for many years into the future.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
