Welcome to My Home Page!

I spent my childhood through high school in New York City, enjoying all the great opportunities of urban life. I got away from the city when I moved to rural western Massachusetts for college at Williams College, where the cows outnumber the people. I then lived in Boston for two years doing biomedical research and attended medical school in Albany, New York. This was followed by residency in Anesthesiology at New York University and then a fellowship in Pain Medicine, also at N.Y.U.

I was drawn to anesthesiology because I have always enjoyed the basic physiology that underpins the daily practice of taking care of surgical patients. As anesthesiologists, we have the privilege of taking care of an enormous range of patients, from children to adults, from healthy to very ill, and provide comfort through a stressful period. Pain medicine allows me the opportunity to get to know patients over a longer period of time, and to take care of more chronic problems. Pain medicine has made great strides over the last decade and now we have numerous procedures to offer patients living with chronic pain, ranging from fluoroscopic-guided nerve blocks to spinal cord stimulation and radiofrequency therapy. It is a very exciting time to be practicing!

In my spare time, I enjoy hiking the outdoors with my wife and golden retriever, as well as improving my tennis skills and enjoying the bountiful California restaurants.

As a new, non-native Californian, I am very happy to call the Bay Area my new home, and to practice medicine at Kaiser Permanente. Our unique multi-disciplinary, integrative approach, as well as the benefits of an outstanding electronic medical record, allows patients to receive truly excellent care.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
