I am a native of California and have received all of my medical education in the "Golden State". It has been both a privilege and a pleasure working in the field of Anesthesiology. As a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, I would like to acknowledge that in 2005, the Society celebrated its 100th anniversary as an educational and scientific association of physicians organized to raise and maintain the standards of the medical practice of anesthesiology and improve the care of the patient.
Outside my work, I enjoy mathematics, classical music, running and rambling through the High Sierras. My degrees in Mathematics were awarded from Princeton University (BA) and UCLA (PhD) and my contributions to the field of combinatorial mathematics have appeared in international literature.
Although I am no longer an active musician an interest in music is maintained as a Patron of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. I attended the 12th competition in May 2005. In April 2006, I ran in my favorite running event, the 110th Boston Marathon. During July and August 2006, a month will be devoted to explorations in the High Sierras. An emphasis will be on the big peaks of the Palisades and the Whitney areas.
Stay well,
Jim Flanigan

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
