My Qualifications

I attended the University of Cinncinati for my medical training. My internship and residency was completed in Oregon at the Health Science University. I am board certified in Family Practice and Sports Medicine by the American Board of Family Practice, and I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 1982. For information about my education, training, and credentials, please read the My Credentials section below.

Why I Choose Kaiser Permanente

I’ve enjoyed working at Kaiser for the last 22 years, because I can do what is best for my patients without anyone looking over my shoulder and telling me what I can do or what I can order. As a former chief of prevention at one of the Kaiser facilities, I remain strongly committed to providing appropriate health prevention and health promotion for all my patients. I will encourage you to be an active participant and promoter for your own health.

I am a firm believer in what we call evidence-based medicine. This means I try to incorporate the best and latest findings into what has been proven to work. Unfortunately, not everything we do has been proven, so there still remains the ART of medicine, finding out what works best for that particular patient. I will tell you when something is recommended based on facts and when what is suggested based on what we believe to be true. I attend conferences yearly and attend many educational sessions throughout the year to keep up. I know many patients use herbal products and that is OK with me. I often recommend glucosamine to help with arthritis for my patients.

I strongly urge all new patients to bring in all their medications for their initial visit, and that yearly, all patients who take four or more medications, bring in their medications for a review.

My Outside Interests

When I am not working I enjoy scuba diving, volleyball, golf and hiking, so, of course, one of my special interests is in sports medicine. I also enjoy coaching softball and soccer.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
