Welcome To My Home Page

This home page is an effort to introduce myself to you and describe the Redwood City - Kaiser Occupational Health clinic. You will notice a variety of web links on the left that provide further information about a variety of topics that are relevant to Occupational Medicine. Simply click on the link to be taken to that web page. Below, you will find some information about my background and a description of our clinic. Please browse freely throughout these pages.

I grew up on Long Island, New York. I obtained a B.A. from Yale University and a Medical Degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons before completing a residency in Internal Medicine at the New England Deaconness Hospital in Boston. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1981 and worked in the Emergency Department at the Hayward facility and in the General Medicine and Occupational Medicine Departments at the Fremont facility before joining the Redwood City Kaiser Occupational Medicine Department on a full-time basis in 1999.

I enjoy working at Kaiser Permanente because it affords me the opportunity to practice in a well-integrated, prepaid setting with ready access to a broad array of medical specialists.

I am board certified in Internal Medicine and in Emergency Medicine. My goal is to provide personalized, quality care for your work-related injury and to help you better understand and deal with the sometimes complex legal issues of Worker's Compensation.

I work closely with my two collegues in the Occupational Medicine Department, Dr. Bunyaviroch and Dr. Huang; and if I am not available, one of them should be able to help you. I live in Palo Alto with my wife, Aiyana (an acupuncturist), and my three children, Jason, Benjamin, and Tatiana. When not caring for patients, I enjoy travel, reading, and spending time with my family. We recently spent a year living in Oaxaca, Mexico where I did volunteer work at a medical clinic for street children, and learned to speak basic Spanish.

About Our Clinic:

I work in the Occupational Medicine Department at Kaiser Permanente - Redwood City, where we treat both Kaiser and non-Kaiser members for a wide variety of work-related injuries and illnesses. If you are seeking our care for a work-related injury, please check with your employer representative to verify that Kaiser Permanente is an approved industrial injury provider for your company. The important difference is your benefits under the Workers Compensation system that covers work-related injuries and your personal health insurance plan, which may or may not be Kaiser Permanente.

If your personal health insurance is with Kaiser Permanente, you should know that Kaiser Health Plan benefits do not cover work-related injuries. These industrial injuries are treated by a company’s designated health care provider, which may be Kaiser Permanente, but this needs to be verified before making an appointment. Of course, if you are experiencing an emergency, then you should seek treatment at the nearest hospital or Emergency Department.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
