Welcome to my Home Page !

My real name is James, but I go by Jake. I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and received my Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Biology from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri in 2002. I received my Master of Science in Medical and Molecular Genetics- Genetic Counseling from Indiana University in 2007.

I started working as a genetic counselor for Kaiser Permanente in June of 2007. I’ve enjoyed working for Kaiser Permanente for a number of reasons. First, they are truly committed to providing the patient with best overall healthcare experience possible, and I would not work for an organization which did not strive for that goal constantly. Second, I feel their overall goals and ethics are a great match for my own goals and beliefs. Finally, they respect and take extremely good care of their employees.

So I’ve told you about my professional life, but there is a whole side of me that patients and family don’t get to see often. In my personal time, I enjoy fly fishing in the streams and rivers of the San Joaquin Valley. I also love to backpack into the high Sierra. I play every sport you can probably think of minus curling. Finally, I really enjoy Sunday afternoons with a barbecue and a football game.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
