My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a pathologist. This medical specialty works largely behind the curtain and serves as a physician consultant. I look at patients’ blood smears, aspirated cells and tissue, and make a diagnosis under a microscope. In this way, I help out your physicians and contribute to your health care. In modern medicine, a pathologic diagnosis frequently plays a crucial role in directing management plans for the patients. Therefore, making accurate diagnoses is my primary responsibility and I strive for perfection with continued education and communication with clinical colleagues. For me, being a pathologist is a most challenging and rewarding profession and I have never regretted this choice as my life career.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

Before joining Kaiser in 2008, I completed my hematopathology fellowship in Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida and my pathology residency in UC Davis. Before that, I was a practicing pathologist in Taipei for eight years. Before that, I did pathology and genetics research at Johns Hopkins Hospital for three years. I chose to join Kaiser Permanente mainly because I identify with Kaiser’s vision and goal. Physicians here want to deliver the best possible health care to our members. We can do it and focus on doing it because the business and revenue hassles have been minimized.

On a Personal Note

When I am off work, I spend most of the time with my family. My husband and I have two daughters. At home, I like reading (cookbooks, home designs, bible, etc), baking (not a good baker in anyway), and playing musical instruments with my girls. We also enjoy outdoor activities and Mother Nature. In summer, we regularly go camping and hiking in state or national parks. For this reason, I would say Northern California is a good place to live and stay.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
