My Biography

I wanted to work at Kaiser Permanente because it is a stable organization that treats both patients and staff well. I came to San Francisco Medical Center to focus on outpatient work. At Kaiser Oakland, I worked on the inpatient side. I’ve lived in San Francisco for 10 years and love working in the city where I live.

My colleagues in the Nutrition Department are a great group of people. In my work, I enjoy interacting with members of various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. I also like the idea of working in a health-oriented environment. Areas of special interest to me include HIV nutrition, pediatrics, alternative medicine, and nutrition therapies. I do the GI clinic in our Pediatrics Department, and I also work on our kidney module. I teach classes addressing gastric bypass procedures and diabetes.

Our members benefit from accessibility to Kaiser’s comprehensive health system, and our team approach to care. Patients can see referral clinicians right on our campus, and they may complete their laboratory work and fill prescriptions on-site as well. Kaiser encourages members to engage in preventive medicine.

During my free time, I enjoy visiting with friends and family, and traveling. Some of my favorite destinations are Peru, Ecuador, and Guatemala. I am partial to Guatemala and visit the country frequently because I have family there. I am also pursuing a master’s degree in Nutrition. I find various ways to thrive through hiking, working out at the gym, and following healthy eating habits. I try to remember to laugh every day; I believe that laughter has many overlooked health benefits!

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
