About Me

I studied medicine at the Baroda Medical College in India. I moved to the US in 1995, arriving in Ann Arbor, Michigan. At the University of Michigan, I was lucky enough to find work as a research fellow, and carried out some very fascinating clinical research. This experience proved so rewarding to me personally, that I decided to study research methods further. At Emory University, I enrolled in the Rollins School of Public Health, obtaining an MPH (Master of Public Health) in Epidemiology.

Internal Medicine has become a very interesting field of medical practice in recent years. Internists get an overview over a much greater extent of healthcare than specialists; and yet, medicine has advanced to the point where Internal Medicine has become a challenging speciality in itself!

In the summer of 2000 I commenced my residency training in Internal Medicine, finishing the residency requirements at the Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Santa Clara. I was fortunate enough to be appointed Chief Resident there for another year!

I joined the Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center in September 2004. Kaiser Permanente Hospitals are some of the best medical facilities in the country today. In this day of high medical costs, these hospitals are some of the very few places where patient care is the highest priority. Some people find this surprising, but it is true: Kaiser Permanente's structure truly frees physicians of all concerns other than the important ones: the patient’s long-term health and well-being.

At Kaiser Permanente San Jose, I work as a Hospitalist physician. This is a relatively new specialty, which focuses exclusively on caring for patients who are admitted to the hospital. Hospitalists do not see outpatients and do not build a practice of their own. They dedicate themselves to caring for inpatients only. This allows them greater focus, enabling them to better keep up with developments in hospital-based medicine.

My clinical interests include medical ethics, evidence-based medicine and preventive medicine. Outside the hospital, I keep myself recharged by hiking, camping, cooking, and traveling. I also volunteer regularly in my children’s school.

My Philosophy of Care

All physicians want to make their patients comfortable, treat them well, and get them healthy and out of the hospital. This only happens when the physician and patient understand each other well therfore clear communication is very important.

I aim to be open and accessible to my patients and answer all questions they have about their illness, hospital care, and follow up care. I also believe in bringing to my patients the best, most professionally advanced care I possibly can. To this end, I always strive to keep my practice as evidence-based as possible, and in tune with the newest developments in clinical research
