About Me

I have been with The Permanente Medical Group for over 25 years. From that you can guess I'm "over fifty." This has encouraged me to stay active and healthy. During days with adequate sunlight I ride my bicycle. I've also run a few marathons. I live with my two dogs in Carmichael. There are more members of my family too... my sister lives in town in a home for handicapped and my Mom lives in Mendocino.

I grew up in Southern California (hey, I was smart enough to leave), and went to college at the University of Redlands. For medical school I went to Washington University in St. Louis. Starting to escape the Midwest, I did my postgraduate training at the University of Oklahoma. While training I read about this wonderful system of health care delivery in California that offered prepaid, comprehensive care. I was hooked on the concept and joined Kaiser Permanente. I've been here in Sacramento ever since though I've moved from the Sacramento facility (there were no others here in the 1970s), to South Sacramento, and then to do hospital work in Santa Rosa.

I have seen many positive and exciting changes in Kaiser Permanente, though the initial premise remains the cornerstone of my belief that people deserve the highest quality health care. You will notice the use of computerized records during our visits. You will also notice that I am often slow and cumbersome with the process, but am committed to improving the quality of care by improving our information system.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
