My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I received my MA Degree in Counseling Psychology and Chemical Dependency from National University. I am licensed as a Marriage Family Therapist in the State of California. Being an MFT basically means I have worked in numerous settings specifically designed to support families who are struggling with the effects of substance abuse issues. Much of this work has been in the area of developing treatment plans for both family members and the individual with substance issues. I decided to focus on this due to my experience of positive outcomes when recovery is pursued.

My Practice Philosophy

I am fortunate to work in the Early Start program that provides an array of support systems designed to provide mothers and fathers the opportunity to speak openly, especially in the areas of substance use, abuse recovery and relapse prevention. Seeing individuals regain the control they need to live healthier lives is a joy to observe. Families that are able to recover together seem to enjoy a new found life purpose.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been a part of Kaiser Permanente with pride since 1994. Over that time I have come to appreciate the continued focus on patient care and ongoing innovative programs providing the most quality care around! I have been fortunate to be a strong team member in the Early Start Program as well as a leader in a research program. It is an honor to be a part of the overall Kaiser Permanente staff.

Why I Chose to Practice at Kaiser Permanente

I have chosen Kaiser Permanente as my career employer primarily due to its integrity. I find the Kaiser Permanente motto to be open and progressive. Kaiser Permanente provides an environment that promotes self-direction, autonomy and recognition of my skills and the positive outcomes I am able to help with. I am allowed flexibility in the areas of required educational programs. My relationships with other staff members are paramount in allowing me to grow professionally and personally.

Professional Interests & Affiliations

I have been a fan of recovery in many areas since I was a child! I have always been intrigued by people who willingly look at themselves from a perspective of how they can be “the best.” Using others as role models for my own goals and plans has helped me make great choices for myself, especially in the area of my career.

Professionally, I am licensed by the State of California, Board of Behavioral Science. I obtained my license in 1993. I am an active member of California’s Association of Marriage Family Therapists. I am very interested in ongoing training in the area of Substance Abuse Recovery both in pregnancy and post partum.

On a Personal Note. . .

I am very involved with my three “great” nephews, Owen who is 8 and of course the twins, Nash & Quin who are 6. They are accomplished athletes, so I spend a great deal of my time being a soccer, baseball, basketball, and swimming fan. I am known as the “Pug Lady.” I have two very entertaining and loving black pugs, Bettie Lou & Bogie who are also the “apples of my eyes.”

Much of my life revolved around recovery and learning to live in peace and harmony.
