My Biography

Welcome to my home page.

I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 2001 in part because I believe that they are one of the leaders in quality and integrated health care for Northern California. After many years here I still believe that to be true and feel fortunate to practice with many great colleagues and consultants. I am board certified in Emergency Medicine and member of the American College of Emergency Physicians. I am one of 2 assistant chiefs in the Emergency Department and my administrative focus is on patient satisfaction and addressing member concerns regarding their emergency care.

Clinically Emergency Medicine offers me the opportunity to make a direct impact on patient's lives, often helping them through some of the best and worst times in their lives. Emergency care is highly integrated with consultant and primary care and our team also depends on our excellent nursing staff and social service providers. Our mission in the Emergency Department is to provide immediate attention to your medical needs and to address your major concerns. All follow up providers can access your entire emergency visit when needed via the electronic medical record in any Northern California Kaiser facility!

I was born and raised in San Jose and have lots of family and friends in the Bay Area. I spent 9 years in the Davis/Sacramento area while attending college and medical school, and then 3 years in Philadelphia before completing my Emergency Medicine training and returning to the Bay Area in 2001. My wife and I have 3 children, 2 boys and a little girl. We also have a Yorkshire Terrier named Harley. My interests include golf and basketball, as well as following the 49ers, Giants, and Warriors through all of their ups and downs! I try to make it to Lake Tahoe and Capitola whenever possible and spend time with my family and friends.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
