Why I became a Physician

I became a physician to try to help people in a meaningful manner.

Why I Chose My Specialty

Emergency medicine gives me an opportunity and responsibility to make an immediate impact in a person's life regardless of the person's circumstances. I have the privilege of seeing a large variety of people who need help, with problems ranging from simple trauma to complex medical conditions. No two days at work are ever the same.

What I Like about Kaiser Permanente

I like the comprehensive health care system that Kaiser Permanente offers patients. The medical information systems allow me to know much of a patient's medical background before the patient is even ready to be seen.

Philosophy on Healing

Unhealthy habits lead to many emergency department visits. Avoid cigarette smoke, excessive alcohol, illicit substances, and risky behaviors. Always buckle up whenever you get into a vehicle. An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure.

My Personal Interests

When I am not at work, I spend most of my time with my wife and family. We enjoy hiking, basketball, and tennis. More recently, I have been working on some home projects. Our latest home project is a vegetable garden.

My Credentials

Medical school UC San Francisco, San Francisco, CA
Internship Scripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego, CA
Residency UC San Diego Medical Center, San Diego, CA
Board certification Emergency Medicine, American Board of Emergency Medicine

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
