Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

At Kaiser Permanente, I have the freedom, resources, and backup to provide what I believe to be quality care to all our patients in a timely manner. The practice of medicine here is beyond standard of care and is second to none. Along with practicing in such a large group comes the benefit of having your colleagues available for immediate consultation in difficult cases and allows for second opinions on the spot.

I have been a part of Kaiser Permanente for only a short time but have quickly come to recognize the generosity, intelligence and compassion of my colleagues in their dealings with patients. I would feel comfortable bringing my own family members for their health needs to any one of them.

My Healthcare Practice

I am an emergency physician. This means I work solely in an emergency department and see any and all patients who present during my shift for any multitude of complaints. I decided to do this because it allows me to interact with a wide variety of patients with a myriad of health problems who are in need of urgent or emergent care. It also allows me to leave my work at the hospital and enjoy my time off as my own.

I have been a diplomat with the American College of Emergency Physicians since becoming board certified in 1998. I also am interested in Wilderness Medicine, Diving Medicine, and just about any kind of medicine that pertains to the outdoors.

My Practice Philosophy

I think people need to look more beyond themselves and self-imposed boundaries and see the bigger picture. There is a whole world out there full of fascinating people and cultures. There is also a world in need of more volunteers to help those who may be down for the moment and just need a helping hand to get back on track. I try to carry these philosophies with me into the emergency department when I work my shift in order to better comprehend people and their troubles.

About Me

I was born and raised in Whittier, California. I lived there until I went away to college in 1985. I returned to Southern California following medical school for residency and married during my second year as a resident. I initially worked at a small community hospital for two years following residency, until my wife and I decided to start a family at which time we moved to Sacramento. My wife and I now have two wonderful children. I currently spend my time doting on my son and daughter and attending their many varied activities. When my children are not in school, we enjoy traveling to see other family as well as visiting new and exciting places.

My Credentials

Residency Loma Linda University School of Medicine, Loma Linda, CA
Board certification Emergency Medicine, American Board of Emergency Medicine

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
