About Me

My mother and my experiences growing up in Oakland were highly influential in my decision to choose a career as a child psychologist at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland. My mother had always modeled and conveyed the value of contributing to our community of Oakland. Through my studies I learned that becoming a child psychologist would give me the opportunity to be a resource to the most important resources of a community, the children and the families. Growing up with the diverse families of Oakland allowed me to develop a sense of appreciation for diversity that guides my practice on a daily basis.

Having the opportunity to practice in the community where I grew up also provides an added layer of meaning to the care that I provide. An additional sense of reward comes from contributing to the community that has given so much to my development. As a child going to professional football, baseball, and basketball games I dreamed about being a professional athlete. During my childhood I fantasized about the thrill of playing for the Raiders, A's, or Warriors. As an adult my goal is to provide a helpful service to a diverse community, such as Oakland. Coming to work for Kaiser Permanente in Oakland has given me that thrill of being drafted by and playing for my home team.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
