Who is George Lai?

I was born in Taipei, Taiwan and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduation, I attended college in the east coast, but decided to return to Ohio for medical school. I then moved to California for my training, and loved it, so I decided to stay! Now I am married with one child, and during what little free time I have, I enjoy skiing, computer programming, photography, and sharing events with my extended family. I am a member of the American Society of Nephrology, International Society of Nephrology & American Medical Association.

What can I do here?

From my web page, you can get information on hypertension, diabetes, and nutrition in chronic kidney disease as well as on dialysis, for starters. Please click on a link on the left to jump to the topic of your interest.

You can refill medications and obtain future appointments with just a few clicks!

You just received your labs. You can't make heads of tails of what they mean? Help is on the way!

You have no primary care physician?

I form many close bonds with my patients and would love to care for every one of them; however, at this moment, I am only the primary care physician for my dialysis patients. If you or any of your family members do not have a personal care provider, please call our Personal Physician Selection Service at 510-675-BOND(2663) and a specialist can help make the best choice for you. Alternatively, you can click here to select a new PCP online.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
