My Biography
I am a native San Franciscan, and I grew up with my health care needs fulfilled by Kaiser Permanente San Francisco. Pleasant memories of my pediatrician have likely taken me back to Kaiser Permanente as a provider! I am part of a great Eye Care department that believes preventive eye care is important to your overall health. My colleagues are great people who are available for consultation and idea exchange. Subscribing to the motto "Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve," I am eager to help you with your eye care needs.
I am in general optometric practice, but I also offer low vision care services. These types of services are for individuals with reduced vision, typically due to conditions such as macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy, where conventional glasses may not be helpful. I may be able to recommend optical aids other than conventional glasses to assist you with your visual needs. Special interests of mine include clinical optics and the latest clinical procedures.
Besides helping my patients to see better, I also spend time in teaching and training the next generation of optometrists to help their patients see better too. I am a clinical professor at the University of California at Berkeley School of Optometry, where I am engaged in clinical and didactic teaching. Though teaching and helping patients to see better can be a challenge, it truly is a fulfilling one.
To help myself thrive, I try to eat properly, get adequate sleep, and minimize stress. During my spare time, I indulge in a little bit of jazz, a little bit of camping, a little bit of the gym, a little bit of traveling, and spending quality time with my family. I am also a baseball fanatic. Go Giants! And do not forget to share your favorite Giants' story at your next eye appointment!
Many people have Laser Vision Correction done so that they are no longer dependent on glasses or contact lenses for distance vision. Individuals over 40 will still need glasses for reading after Laser Vision Correction to correct both eyes for distance.
