I began practicing Emergency Medicine in 1973 and joined the Redwood City Emergency Department in 1976. I was appointed Assistant-Chief of the department in 1977 and became Chief in 1991.

Kaiser Permanente offers a collegial, stimulating practice where patient care is the highest priority. I am proud to be a team member in our multispecialty medical group.

Emergency Medicine attracted me because it offers a challenging variety of clinical situations. Kaiser Permanente emergency department patients benefit from our computerized medical records allowing the physician to be familiar with the patient’s medical history as well as their primary care provider. The primary care provider likewise has access to the information gathered during the Emergency Department visit. This integrated information system, the ready availability of consultation, imaging, and lab studies, and the continuous effort to improve our quality and service are some of the reasons I choose to practice in Kaiser Permanente.

I am Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and a Fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians.

I also serve as one of 4 Assistant-Physicians-in-Chief for the Redwood City Medical Center.

I was born in Illinois and remained there until graduation from medical school. My wife and I have 2 boys. One is an engineer and the other is a biochemist. My interests include bicycling, golf, scuba diving and underwater photography.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
