My Practice

I am an Internist. Prior to 1998, my practice was in Primary Care Medicine at Kaiser Rancho Cordova. Since then the focus of my practice has been in the care of hospitalized patients at the Kaiser Hospitals in Roseville and Sacramento. Now about 2/3 of my work is devoted to inpatient care and about 1/3 to patients in the emergency department.

My Credentials

Medical school UC San Diego School of Medicine, San Diego, CA
Internship UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Residency UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

My Practice Philosophy

I enjoy caring for individual patients as a part of a large team which includes not only the patient and their family, but their primary care physician, subspecialists, pharmacists, nurses and nurse specialists, physical and respiratory therapists, dieticians and health educators. Through collaboration, we are able to provide superior care to individual patients and continually share and gain from each others’ different perspectives, knowledge and experience. The most important part of my job is to help patients clarify their goals and then to work toward the development of a comprehensive plan which will help patients to achieve those goals as they transition out of the acute care setting and back to the care of their primary physicians. I find it particularly gratifying to work with patients and families during critical times.

Why I Like Practicing at Kaiser Permanente

It is a pleasure and a privilege to work with an outstanding group of colleagues who have the freedom to be patient advocates. Within our health care system, I can get my patients the diagnostic tests and treatments I feel are needed without having to worry about heaps of red tape and bureaucratic review. Generous assistance and collaboration with subspecialists is always just a phone call away. The natural incentives within our system encourage us all to help our patients get well and stay well.

My Personal History

I am a Northern California Native, grew up in Loomis, California and graduated from Del Oro High School. My wife, Caroline was raised in Gridley, California. We have been married for 20 years. Caroline serves as a Eucharistic Minister and religious educator at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Rocklin. We have 3 sons who attend two different local public high schools, are active in various music programs at school, and have been participating in sports activities (baseball and football). We all have been extensively involved in our local Boy Scout Troop, and Caroline and I are the proud parents of an Eagle Scout.
