Hello, I'm Gary Chu, M.D. I grew up in Arcadia, California. Later I attended UC Berkeley as an undergraduate and received my medical training from Oakland's Highland Hospital, affiliated with UCSF. I also served as Chief Resident for the department of medicine in 2001.
I work as a hospitalist. This means that my medical practice is limited to seeing patients in the hospital only. I do not have a panel of patients that I follow in clinic. I typically work 7 days straight, then take night call shifts the following week. Hospitalists work very closely with primary care physicians in patient's overall treatment and follow-up plan. In addition, we are part of a team that continuously look for ways to improve the quality of care for our patients.
I am also a volunteer Assistant Professor at the UC Davis Medical Center and help train future physicians.
Practice Philosophy/Approach:
1. Treat each patient as if they are part of my family. (I love my family.)
2. Provide best care possible within my power
3. Inform patient the details of his/her disease and treatment plan every step of the way.
4. Keep patient's primary physician up to date.
If you have any questions regarding your hospitalization, please feel free to discuss it with me. There are no trivial questions. The best treatment plan is the plan that patient understands. If I am not on the floor, please have the nursing staff page me.
