My Biography
I have been a Kaiser Permanente patient since childhood and have had primarily successful experiences, so deciding to work here was a natural choice. In addition, some colleagues/friends of mine are employees and let me know when they had heard of an open position. Prior to coming to Kaiser Permanente, I had taken off almost a year from my last placement, taking time to recharge, and then I sought out a Kaiser Permanente position when I was ready to re-enter the workforce. I am entering the chemical dependency field for the first time.
Although substance abuse/dependence has often been present somewhere in the families with whom I have previously worked, it has never been the focus of treatment. I am soaking up all of the information that I can get my hands on, through both the medical and mental health fields, so that I can better serve my patients. In my prior role, I focused on infant mental health and attachment theory, and had a wonderful opportunity to help mothers and fathers develop and improve the relationships they had with their infants and toddlers. I am most interested in issues concerning chemical dependency, substance abuse, infant mental health, gay and lesbian issues, child sexual abuse, and the grief process. I just finished reading the book Tweak, which chronicles a young man’s battle with methamphetamines; I am about to start Beautiful Boy, which is his father’s account of the same events.
I think that one of the major patient benefits of our health care model is that members can access affordable, quality health care. In addition, I think there is an important dividend for patients in that all of the service providers on their care team communicate with one another, ensuring that members receive personalized, comprehensive service.
Outside of work, I try to do a little of everything. I love animals and nature, so I have a houseful of pets! The felines are Miss Baby, Dark Lady, Eartha Kitten, and Earl the Girl. Brandy, a pit-mix, is the lone canine. I love to visit local parks, lakes, zoos and aquariums. I enjoy reading mysteries and true crime books, science fiction, and I buy a stack of comic books every week! I have been a country and western dancer for about 13 years and I DJ events here in the city and in the East Bay. I spend good times with friends and family seeing movies, playing cards, or grabbing a bite to eat.
Endeavoring to “live well and thrive” is quite a process! I enjoy taking walks at the lake; the fresh air and exercise is wonderful. I go about 2 to 4 times per week. I try to eat a diet high in fruits and veggies, but do allow myself some chicken, pasta, fish, even beef on occasion. I take supplements every morning and evening to make sure I am getting what my body needs to make it through the day.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
