Welcome to my Home Page

In addition to providing some background about me, I hope that this page will serve as a useful source of information for you. Links to the left of the page will direct you to some of the materials that have been developed for our members here at Kaiser Permanente. I have also included links to various sites that have been helpful to my patients in the past.

I was born and raised in San Francisco and had a bicultural Korean-American upbringing. Being raised in two cultures I have realized that mental illness is not as widely acknowledged or tended to amongst the Asian community. I felt that being a psychiatrist would allow me to help change that.

I received some of my medical training around the world including England and the West Indies and I received much of my psychiatric training in New York City, and was involved in counseling for 9/11 victims and families.

I joined the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group July 15, 2002. I enjoy the camaraderie of my clinical staff and the team care we provide for our patients.

My practice philosophy:

Being mindful of how our bodies function, how our experiences shape our perceptions, and our social supports influence our strengths, I tremendously enjoy the partnerships I have with my patients to alleviate their suffering.

My professional interests include bipolar disorder in young adults. I am a member of the Northern California Psychiatric Society and the American Psychiatric Association.

My outside interests include painting and reading

My Credentials

Medical school University of St. George's School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies
Internship State University of New York At Buffalo, Buffalo, NY
Residency Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, NY
Board certification Psychiatry, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
