My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a California board licensed and national diplomate acupuncturist, currently working on my clinical doctorate. I have embraced oriental medicine because it is a complex medical system that provides a different perspective on health care. Acupuncture is an integral part of this complete medical system. The holistic view of oriental medicine integrates well with the highly specialized perspective of western medicine, together working synergistically for the benefit of the patient. I believe that this integrative approach is the future of health care and I am very excited and proud to be amongst the medical professionals taking the first steps on this new pathway.

My Practice Philosophy

I believe that listening to the patients' needs and concerns is of utmost importance in providing quality care. The treatment room is the patients' "safe haven" and the time they spend there is the quality time they deserve to give themselves for healing. When I go in the treatment room, I leave my personal problems on the threshold. It is the only way I can pay undivided attention to the patient and provide the best care I can offer. When patients are involved in the planning process and are encouraged to take an active role in their health process they get much better results. One of my main goals is to empower patients to take charge of their own healing and help them maintain their well being.

My Qualifications

I've received my Bachelor in Early Childhood Education at 18, and taught 1st and 2nd grade before emigrating to the United States in 1985. I graduated from Yo San University in Santa Monica, CA, in 2001, with a Masters' Degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. In August 2001 I received the Diplomate in Acupuncture accreditation from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). I was very fortunate to study with a Japanese Master for two years before I opened my private practice in 2004. In 2008 I started a Clinical Doctorate program at Five Branches University in San Jose and expect to graduate by the end of 2010.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been a part of the acupuncture team at Kaiser Permanente Roseville since January 2008. We are an intrinsic specialty division of the PM&R Department. It is difficult to express in words the satisfaction I have when patients come in grateful for the relief they've received from the acupuncture treatments. It is such a blessing to be able to practice what I love and be of service to those in need.

Why I Choose to Practice Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente has been nationally recognized as the most avant-garde western medical system in the country, adopting and integrating a large array of complementary and alternative medicine programs and going green by establishing the first paperless system for both patients’ information protection and accessibility. I love being part of such a positive force, led by such visionaries, and hope to grow with it and provide excellent health care for our members. I couldn't ask for a better employer which cares so much for its employees.

On a Personal Note. . .

I came to this country in 1985 as a political asylee, speaking six words: ‘Yes’, ‘No’, ‘Thank you!’ and ‘I love you!’ The rest I’ve learned here and I’m still learning. I always liked to study, so the community college became my friend. The more I learned, the more I wanted to know. I had tried the graphic arts and worked as a freelance graphic designer while climbing the corporate ladder in the property management field. The higher I reached the more I realized that that wasn’t my calling, so, in 1995, I decided to follow in my grandmother’s footsteps and enter the healing arts field. I graduated in 2001 with a Masters’ Degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine and have been practicing it since. I am still studying, though. There is always something to learn.

I also like to travel. My husband, George and I love taking off, any chance we get. There is so much beauty surrounding us and never enough time to see everything. We love the lush green of Washington and Oregon, the beaches of California, the red rocks of Arizona and the Colorado Rockies. We are enamored with the Mediterranean coast, especially Marbella, on the Costa del Sol in Southern Spain. We love reading and our most pleasant past time is playing with our whippet, Max, and listening to symphonic music. My favorite composer is Arcangelo Corelli and his baroque style music. I am a violin player, singer, and published poet, and love writing acrostics, currently working on a children’s herb book.
