What is a Clinical Health Educator

A Clinical Health Educator is an important part of your health care team. We work directly with your health care providers in the medicine department. As your Clinical Health Educator (CHE) it is my job to help you make lifestyle changes that will benefit your health. If you speak Spanish and have diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol and would like to learn what you can do to improve your health, give me a call. If you would like to quit smoking, lose weight, or learn about advance health care directives, I can help.

We have 3 CHEs at Kaiser San Jose depending on where your primary physician or nurse practitioner is located

Educational Background

1996 BA, Sociology, Pitzer College
2001 MPH, Health Education, San Jose State University

Personal History

I was born in Portland Oregon but moved to the Bay Area when I was 3 years old. After graduating from Pitzer college in 1996 I moved to Guayaquil, Ecuador, where I lived for 1 year and taught English classes. After returning to the Bay Area from Ecuador I headed to San Jose State University to pursue a master's degree in public health where I combined my interest in education and healthcare. After completing my degree I began working here at Kaiser San Jose as a Clinical Health Educator. I enjoy working directly with patients both one on one and in classes helping them improve their health. I am currently married with a newborn son. When not working I enjoy travelling and spending time with my family.

If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail or call me.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
