I am a board certified Genetic Counselor. Genetic counselors are health professionals with specialized graduate degrees and experience in the areas of medical genetics and counseling. Genetic counselors identify families at risk for birth defects or genetic disease, investigate the problem present in the family, interpret information about the disorder, and analyze inheritance patterns and risks of recurrence and review available options with the family. Genetic counselors also provide supportive counseling to families, serve as patient advocates and refer individuals and families to community or state support services.

My Biography

I was raised in the Adirondack region of New York state. I received my BA degree in biology and psychology from Dartmouth College in 1993 and my MS degree in genetic counseling from the Medical College of Virginia in 1996. I am board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling and I am a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors.

I have been in the Bay Area since 1996. I provided prenatal counseling in a high-risk obstetric clinic for 3 years before joining the Kaiser San Jose Genetics Department in May 2000. In addition to providing counseling services to prenatal, pediatric and adult patients, I also teach classes about prenatal diagnosis options and breast cancer genetics. I speak some Spanish and I am working on improving my conversation skills.

I enjoy my work immensely, particularly because I have the opportunity to interact with an interesting and diverse patient population. I look forward to providing you and your family with high quality care and encourage your questions and comments.
