Welcome to my Home Page!
Welcome to my home page and to the Chemical Dependency Services at Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center. I hope you will find useful information here about me, and my practice philosophy, as well as some useful links on the left hand side of this page to resources on Mental Health Information and Web Sites and general health topics.
About Me
I went into the field of psychology to better understand myself and my place in this world. I now find great rewards in helping others undertake the same journey. I consider it a privilege to learn about my patients, their lives, loves, and struggles. Most importantly, I try to maintain an open mind about what may be emotionally corrective for each of the unique individuals I treat.
I am a graduate of the American School of Professional Psychology in Point Richmond, California. I hold a masters and doctorate in applied clinical psychology. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at a private, residential treatment facility in San Rafael, California and completed my post-doctoral residency at Kaiser Permanente in Santa Rosa, California.
My clinical interests include chemical dependency treatment, psychoanalytic psychotherapy, developmental psychology, psychometric assessment, geriatric psychology, trauma recovery, and dual diagnoses. My personal interests include reading, hiking, cycling, astronomy, theoretical physics, and meditation.
My Philosophy of Care
Even though we may find them uncomfortable to tolerate, psychological symptoms often serve an important purpose in our lives. As you are the expert on your own life, it may be worth examining what makes a symptom more important to have than to let go of or change. Sometimes the answer is not immediately apparent and that is where psychotherapy offers the possibility of growth and greater emotional maturity for those willing to seek it. I encourage you to consider psychotherapy as an investment in your own human development.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
