I have cared for thousands of patients as an Internal Medicine physician (Adult Medicine Specialist) since graduating from my residency in 1996, all in Sacramento. Most of that time, I have held a faculty position in the UC Davis Health System, where I am an Associate Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine. I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 2005, and have enjoyed working at the South Sacramento Medical Center.

In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I also serve as the Director of Medical Informatics for Kaiser Permanente HealthConnect (our new Electronic Medical Record) in Northern California. My focus in that position is patient care as in my practice at South Sacramento. The focus of our new KP HealthConnect system is to help find ways in which our physicians, nurses, other staff, and members get the most out of KP HealthConnect. As members, I hope you have found our electronic tools useful to you and your care providers. If you have not yet signed up for Email Your Doctor, you can do so at www.members.kp.org.

Since my Informatics position consumes such a large amount of time weekly, I do not think it fair to our members that I try to manage my own panel of patients – I just wouldn’t be available to the degree that Kaiser Permanente members deserve. Instead, I work in the Internal Medicine Clinic in South Sacramento seeing my colleagues’ patients when they are unavailable. I am glad to have the opportunity to assist those in need, and to work with my colleagues, whom I have found to be highly passionate and excellent clinicians.

My background has been pretty varied, with detours that have given me experiences that have served me well as I care for Kaiser Permanente members. I graduated from Tufts University Medical School in 1989, and from the Internal Medicine residency program at the western campus, Baystate Medical Center in 1996. In between, I trained in general surgery, Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat surgery), and served my country as a U.S. Navy Flight Surgeon providing medical care to a Marine Corps Expeditionary Force in the first Gulf War. I also earned a Masters in Public Health from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

I look forward to helping you or your family members, if and when you need care, in the absence of your adult primary care physician. I also hope that the work that my team and colleagues at Kaiser Permanente are doing with KP HealthConnect, is helping you and your family stay healthy by providing your physician with the tools to give you the best and speediest care possible. Thanks for trusting Kaiser Permanente with your medical needs.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
