About Me

I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 1993— right out of residency. I first practiced at Kaiser Permanente Santa Teresa, in San Jose (my birthplace). In 1997, I moved closer to home in the Diablo service area. I like to consider myself a “local, hometown” doctor since I have the pleasure of treating patients from the area I grew up in. I was born, raised and educated in this great state of California. I was raised in Tracy and enjoy the fact that my Kaiser Permanente service area includes my hometown.

I truly love my job and the people I work with. Kaiser Permanente affords doctors the opportunity to practice medicine without the interference and restrictions by third parties. We (the doctors) really do make the decisions, which is the right way to do things. I feel very lucky to be working in an environment that fosters excellence and professionalism.

Anesthesiology as a specialty affords me the opportunity to utilize my expertise daily and connect with patients during a stressful time in their treatment. Developing the trust of a patient through education, rapport and personality is most rewarding for me as an anesthesiologist. One of my main concerns when I do anesthesia is to alleviate the patient’s fear. Surgery is scary for most people and I consider it my responsibility not only to facilitate a successful outcome; but also to make the whole experience better than they imagined.

Besides work, I am passionate about my family (of course!) and water polo. I am a member of the Olympic Club in San Francisco and have attended 2 World and 3 National championships in the past 3 years. I have helped coach Monte Vista High School and Diablo water polo. My other interests include painting with pastels and working in the yard.

Internship Los Angeles County/University of Southern California Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
